Opera Video of the Week

July 21, 2008 at 10:10 am (Uncategorized) (, , )

I’m bored. I like putting videos up so other people can see them even though I know no one will watch it. So with out further adu the opera video of the week.

This Week’s Opera Song is “Pa-pa-pa-pa-Papagena!” Performed by Detlef Roth and Gaële Le Roi.

Papageno the bird catcher wants nothing more in life than a little wife. When he goes on an adventure he meets the one woman that was meant for him, a Papagena. At first she appears to him as a very old ugly hag but when he must choose between taking her as his wife or never having a wife he chooses her. She reveals herself to be a lovely woman whom he falls for. She is chased away though and he fears he will not see her again. But when he rings his magic bells she returns to him and there is much rejoicing.

I should not be allowed to look at T-Shirts. I found a million and a half of them. My favorite is this one. Who wouldn’t want old Figaro as their boyfriend? No only is he crafty, smart, sexy, and sweet he is also a barber (free haircuts!) and a Bass-baritone.

Of course because my next boyfriend will be dragged to the opera somewhat often (even if it means skipping a few meals in college) he will see (and love) The Marriage of Figaro (my so far all time non G&S opera). Because of this he will wear this shirt. The author’s quote is totally spot on too: “Only the best character in the entire history of opera”. Well he is next to Figaro.

There is also a shirt about Carmen which has a funny comment. Carmen was smart- can we say “stalker” ? Then there is a Don Giovanni shirt. Say’s he was the ultimate stud. He has been played by Bryn Terfel so I must agree.

Moving on there is this. It’s so true. When I do hum you won’t know the song so just ignore it. This rocks because it’s true. As is this, this, this, and this.

I found this shirt for people who think opera is all about fat laddies singing really really loudly and breaking glass. And this shirt will help me make friends who get my jokes! Or scare other possible friends away…

I happily found two Gilbert and Sullivan shirts too! They are old friends and need to be on the radio more.

Of course I just found this. OMGBBQ IT’S SOOOOOOO CUTE! KAWAI! *squee* *swoons* I’m getting that as soon as I go to college.

I will also be getting a roll up keyboard. Hopefully one that glows in the dark. It will be full of win.

Cherubino

Best. Opera. Character. EVER!

Or at least he’s up there with Figaro and Tonio. I highly suggest watching The Marriage of Figaro.

Start Here

It has Bryn Terfel ^^

Also the actress who plays Cherubino does a really GREAT job and I would watch any scene with her in it.

The others are very good too but Bryn Terfel and Susanne Mentzer are my favorites.

Yeah, that’s about it.

The Big Post of Everything

June 18, 2008 at 8:10 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , )

Where to start, hummm. Books!

Well I’m reading 3 books now. The Golden Compass, Seven Pillars of Wisdom, and *gasp* Pride and Prejudice. Amazing what saying it’s a social commentary rather than a romance will get me to read. Well that and Mr. Darcy Comics. I’m only in chapter two of P&P so I don’t have a lot to say about it. It’s kind of slow I guess but I’ve read slower.Speaking of slow, Mr. Lawrence, as much as I love you, you use to many words to say what you mean to say sometimes. That being said Seven Pillars is a very interesting book. If you like that sort of stuff, I can imagine people would hate it very easily. This leaves The Golden Compass. This book is friggin’ awesome. I’m not done with it yet but it is really good. Read it.For those who care Flow My Tears the Police Man Said is good too but I do have to say that the ending kind of sucks. I was hoping for a bit more shadowy, bad-guy did it type ending though.Next on my list is going to be It Can’t Happen Here and then maybe Brave New World. That is after I finish all of P&P and His Dark Materials

I don’t have a lot to say movie wise. I haven’t really watched much. Did see AFI’s 10 top 10. I’m adding The Malteese Falcon, Reds, A Clock Work Orange, and Vertigo to my list, I think I’m taking off Chinatown though. I have watched 2001, I didn’t love it. It was worth seeing and it wasn’t bad but it is not my sort of movie. I think that it may just be a kick arse book though. It certainly seems like you could get a lot of themes to write a paper about at least. I think this week I may just end up seeing if the video rental place has Psycho and Vertigo and watching that this week end. Hitchcock FTW!

I really need to get cracking on my story. I have rewritten the opening several times. It has yet to break a page. 0.o I’m taking this to fair too. I need to get cracking on my computer poster and newspaper article too. I may think about doing poems too. I can see it now my limericks verse a bunch of haikus and open verses. I like this idea. There’s also a division in the art class for pictures done with crayons. FTW!

Speaking of Fair I wanna cook! But, of course, we lack at least 1 ingredient for EVERYTHING I want to make. I have about 18 recipes I want to make. They range from doughnuts to funny Arabic and Italian food.  You’ll never guess what I’m taking to fair.

I actually came on here to say something serious but I don’t remember what it was. Oh Well! Colonel Bogey March time!

MOVIES!!!!one!!!

June 3, 2008 at 8:20 pm (Uncategorized) (, )

Well I’ll just start out saying that the story I had posted a bit of is no good. I’ve got a better idea now but not much written. I don’t feel like typing it either so it will have to wait.  Oh well.

Right now I am watching Lawrence of Arabia right now. It’s awesome and probably has the greatest soundtrack ever. It’s a real 10 out of 10 movie.  It was shot on location which makes it even better so not only does it sound good it looks good too. Having said that it’s slower than slow and not a movie for everyone.  It is a lot of talking and walking with some war parts thrown in. I still love it. The part where the Arabs steal the horses is probably my favorite though the last hour and a half are probably the best part if a little sad. They don’t make movies like this anymore. The characters has actually interesting and there is a plot. Even thought a lot of people wouldn’t like it I would say everyone should watch it.

I’m also really bummed about not seeing this movie before I did my history report. This would be an awesome topic. Heck, I wish they talked a little about this in history class too. But, alas, I go to an American public school, and thought it is not a bad place it does lack in some places. I’ll probably end up writing a mini report for the heck of it one day.

In other news I also watched The Road to El Dorado today too. I saw this movie ages ago and didn’t like it. I found out it had Kevin Kline “in” it and watched it again. I loved it and would give it a 9 out of 10. It really is a nice looking film and makes me sad they don’t draw out movie anymore. I would suggest watching it on youtube.

I don’t think I have given a rating on Charlie Wilson’s War either. While I’m at it I mine as well. It gets a 7 out of 10. It’s a good movie but not really my sort of thing. I think everyone should see it though.

Story Snippet

May 25, 2008 at 10:17 pm (Uncategorized) ()

Just a quick post for tonight. I have a bit of the opening of the first draft. That is all and it’s not great.

Time flies when you have a broadband internet connection. Kaitlin Black knew this very well yet it did not matter to her. She was currently engrossed in several projects at the moment, some where more important than others. She couldn’t help but pay attention to the most trivial project the most, watching mostly poorly made videos from various hosting sites. She rarely found any good ones but for some unknown reason she still look at the new videos. She figured that ti was ritual. Boredly she clicked on yet another video blog. It didn’t look like anything special, and it didn’t have a lot of hits and was probably just another bottle blond prep whining about how horrid her life was but still Kate clicked the link and waited a bit for it to load.

Math Jokes

They Rock. Little nerdy maybe but I laughed. It’s a wonderful joke that most people probable won’t get.

I don’t really have anything else to say. I’m going to get started on a story soon. Just as soon as I have a plot. I’ll put some of that up I think.
